Q. How do I care for my Rockenbach Pen?
Heat and cold are the enemies of your Rockenbach Pen. Heat will cause a  wooden pen will dry out and temperature  fluctuation may cause it to crack.  The ink in fountain pen nibs will dry up from the heat causing it to clog.  These conditions will soon remove the luster on any pen.  Avoid leaving your Rockenbach Pen in a car or  near a fireplace, oven or other areas where extremes of heat and cold will damage it.

Clean your Rockenbach Pen by  wiping the surfaces with a soft cloth. Do not use car wax on any pen parts as even the mildest car waxes contain abrasives to remove oxidation on the painted car surfaces.  Do not use cleaning fluids.

For wooden pens. periodically apply a light coat of fine furniture polish on the wood surfaces and buff with a soft cloth.  For acrylic pens you can use a quality plastic polish and to remove light scratches you may use a quality rubbing compound.

Be careful not to drop your pen, especially acrylic pens, the pen barrel material may crack and/or chip.  The internal mechanical mechanism may also be damaged by dropping a pen.

We recommend not carrying your pen in your pocket or purse were car keys and other items may scratch it.  If you do want to carry your pen this way, use a soft sheath to protect it.

Q. Some of your pens use stabilized wood. What is stabilized wood?
Stabilized means the wood has been impregnated under pressure with acrylic resin, which may be clear or colored. There is no change to the wood other than color and figure enhancement. The result is a high degree of permanent durability. Stabilization minimizes cracking and checking. Expansion and contraction are also minimized. It results in material that is resistant to temperature changes, humidity extremes, UV rays and saltwater as well as many acids and solvents commonly encountered in day-in-day-out use.
Stabilized wood allows you to have the beauty of wood with the stability of man-made material. Open grain woods such as Box Elder and Buckeye Burl are often stabilized to aid in turning the material on a lathe.
